In the month of July, 78 percent of all e-mail was spam according to the August 2008 Symantec State of Spam Report. As Kelly Conley points out in her Response Blog, the most notable scams reported in the last month centered on the continuance of headline spam targeting presidential candidates and the 2008 Olympics. Symantec has also monitored a resurgence of spam preying on the economic downturn.
